NOTES FROM PIPEY'S CORNER

A SAD DAY IS COMING

We regret to inform you all that Sharp & Co., makers of Kintail, Glen, and Drumran bagpipes and one of the oldest pipemakers in existance, will cease business some time this year due to health reasons. This is quite a blow, as it just fell out of the blue last week. We've been doing business with Greig and the boys for over fourteen years now, and their closing will put a big hole in the bagpipe business. This means that after our current stock of Kintail and J&R Glen pipes is gone - that's it. We can no longer take on refurbs from them as well, so all the 'boutique' mount colours will no longer be available. We wish Greig, Drew, and Steven all the best for the future. More on this as it develops.

It's Spring time once again, the clocks are set forward - and the new prices are taking effect. The dollar's tumble has really put a cramp into prices of all things imported, and price increases will be effective as they come in, so please contact us to get current pricing on anything from the UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. We'll hold prices on current stock until it runs out, but once we have to reorder, new prices reflecting the dollar's sad situation will go into effect. We should have a full repricing by April 15.

New products: BLACK garters, yes, nasty, where's-the-funeral BLACK garters, in both the Gordon ($44.95) and Atholl ($69.95) patterns are now available. Also, here's are newly expanded line of moderately priced Sgians from The Sgian Dubh Company:

See our SGIAN page for prices.

WYGENT REEDS ARE NOW BACK IN STOCK!

At long last we have Mark Wygent's drone reeds - original Mk Is with glassfibre tongues for $99.95 and our exclusive Waterproof Duatones for $169.95. Prices have risen some 20%, but this marks the first price hike in four years.

Also new and soon available: LEATHER BAGPIPE CASES, both hard and soft. The HARD CASE, shown below in saddle tan, fully lined with red plush, has three strap fastenings like the old-fashioned ones. These will age beautifully and give your fine pipe a real showcase. They will run $449.95.

The soft case, in black garment leather, makes a great gig or travel bag for only $189.95 - that's only $10 more than the kilter soft case!. Pictures up next month!

We may not be hearing from Black Part for a while as he may be off to scourge the Spanish Main (for real) for three months in Aruba. He'll probably get a pickup band together - the 'Calypso Pipes and Drums,' no less....
