Specially formulated for woodwind instruments by a professional biochemist, this is NOT the usual thinned-out mineral oil, but a careful blend of natural oils that really feeds the wood and prevents checking. RENAISSANCE WAX - if you see me at the games you'll hear my spiel about this stuff. Developed at the British Museum, this fine-grade microcrystalline wax is the BEST way to protect the outside of your bagpipes, especially pipes with no finish on them (like our Kintail Chalice models, Naill, Ian Murray, or other makes). Really. It's expensive at $16.95 for the 65ml tin, or get the larger 200 ml tin for only $29.95 (that's three times more wax) but hell, a small tin will last several years even if you use it on your furniture, your armour, your sword, dirk, and sgian blades, your shoes and belts - it's the best protective coating for just about anything - you can even use it on silver to help prevent tarnish! Seriously, RENAISSANCE will feed the wood of your pipes and help prevent checking, at the same time keeping a nice warm sheen on the wood. We've used it for years and we've NEVER had cracking problems! This is the wax we include with EVERY set of pipes we sell.

We receive a lot of inquiries about synthetic drone reeds. We are distributors of the extremely popular SYNTHE-DRONE, SYNTHE-DRONE MARK II, and DUATONE reeds made by Mark Wygent.

Above are shown the three different WYGENT models. The ORIGINAL SYNTHE-DRONE ($109.95), first marketed in April of 1995 - a standard which has only been surpassed by the DUATONE REED ($169.95), introduced in November of 1999. The MK II reeds are no longer produced. The DUATONE reed is easily the finest synthetic reed ever developed - and easily a decade ahead of its competitors. Its twin tongues produce a sweet rich tone with little or no fuss, perfect for soloists or bandsmen.
